Hey Everybody,
Glad to have many of you at the recent events in New York.
The first was the Coffee and Food Pairing at Society Coffee in Harlem. The food from Wiley, the chef, was fantastic and paired very nicely with the 4 coffees. Unfortunately the new crop Ugandan samples didn't arrive in time, but we were still able to French press our current Uganda Bugisu AA product as well as 3 excellent coffees from Panama, Bolivia and Colombia.
The second event was a cupping for the finally-arrived new crop samples from Uganda. The event was held at the beatiful, brand new Gimme! coffee on Mott St in Soho. If you haven't been there yet, then go soon! They've got a fine set up and a great group of people.
The two fresh crop samples we tasted were:
1) a blend of beans hailing from farmer groups all across the Mt. Elgon region (most beans were pulped and dried by the farmers themselves),
2) a blend of beans from 4 washing stations across the Bugisu region. Each station takes in cherry and produces beautiful dry parchment because of very tight quality and consistency controls and their locations in the top coffee growing areas of the Bugisu region. The very clean quality of the later certainly jumped out at most of the cuppers at the event.
Daniel Humphries, who hosted the event at Society and also contributed a ton to the Gimme! event wrote up some great postings about the events here:
